The second layer of AVG antivirus protection is Resident Shield. This tool helps to prevent you from opening infected files you might download knowingly or unknowingly from the internet. The information highway is facing new threats every day.

Some of these threats haven’t been added into the databases of any antivirus companies. Luckily, AVG gives its users the option to opt in to share zero-day data so they can receive immediate updates to their AVG software’s signature database.

Doing this protects you from zero-day attacks. If an error ever occurs, you will see a security pop up with an alert with an Auto-Fix button. If you press the button, AVG will reset and go back to the last known best protection mode.

Instead, AVG watches your computers idle time before it starts running a scan. AVG already knows what it’s already scanned so it’ll ignore any files that were previously scanned and deemed safe. There’s no need to worry about wasted scan time anymore. Game Mode: When you use game mode, you don’t need to worry about AVG updates or scans affecting your network speeds.

There are a few features that come with AVG antivirus that are worth noting. Example: AVG Social Network Protection. Upon installation, this is activated. When you exchange links from Twitter or Facebook, AVG will check them.

While you’re surfing the internet, AVG will try its best to make sure you don’t land on a site that is suspicious. If you happen to land upon a page that is deemed inappropriate or not safe you’ll be given the option to proceed or to go back to the previous page you were visiting.

A useful feature to have from an antivirus company is being able to protect yourself on the go with your mobile devices, AVG now offers an app that’ll help scan your phone for viruses and adware that could potentially spy on your browsing habits and collect personal information. We have great respect for AVG for this. Currently they do not have an antivirus app for iOS devices.

Any issue you might have with the software can easily be resolved looking through the user manual and links to helpful online resources.

AVG offers e-mail and chat support.

However, there is NO phone support unless you’re paying for premium support or calling to upgrade your current package.

AVG antivirus 2018 has it’s quirks but for antivirus protection its effectiveness and well thought out features make it a good solution for the basic computer user. AVG internet security however offers much better protection.
